Hi Maren Taylor Reed! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
My mother and father gave me the name. Maren is a family name meaning “star of the sea.”
What city are you from and where are you based now?
I was born and raised in Arlington, TX. I am currently residing in Dallas.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I have always loved to sing. When I was a toddler, I would sing songs from “The Little Mermaid” at the top of my lungs on my swing set. I took voice lessons on and off throughout my life. At twenty-three, I had finally found my perfect voice coach and mentor, Damon K. Clark; he helped make my dreams a reality.
Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
I remember the first time seeing Beyonce in the movie, “Pink Panther.” Her hit single, “Check On It,” would play nonstop in my living room. I would wear my mother’s high heels, a feather boa, lipstick, and anything pink to imitate her. I remember begging my mother to go to Blockbuster to rent her documentaries. Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj, Marina and the Diamonds, and Lady Gaga also played a profound role in my childhood.
