Hi La’ Von J! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
La’ Von is actually my middle name. It actually means ‘divinity.’
What city are you from and where are you based now?
I’m from Lufkin, Texas…I am currently based in Los Angeles.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I started pursuing my career in music amidst the 2020 quarantine. I was allowed into the studio for the first time under heavy restrictions due to the virus. I honestly fell in love with the atmosphere of the studio and was able to track out my first ever studio recorded track. I got started with music early on in my church choir. We had a youth group specific to young male singers. We each took turns leading and doing background singing to different gospel medleys in our respective octaves. Being in this group introduced me to the concept of performing and working in a group to accomplish a musical goal.
Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
Being heavily influenced by the sound of church music and other soulful artists, I developed a respect for the genres, Neo-Soul, Blues, and of course, Gospel. These…
