Hi Shan.X! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
Honestly, it was my Instagram name, and when I started making music, I decided it would be my artist name. I have a thing for the letter, “X,” because you rarely see it used in the English language and the versatility of its pronunciation is super cool to me.
What city are you from and where are you based now?
I lived in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn and moved from there to Long Island when I was like two. My home was in L.I., but I spent the majority of my days and nights in Canarsie — which is where I live now.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
When I was 17 years old, I released my first song. I lied to my parents and packed a change of clothes on the way to my very formal internship on Wall Street, then I snuck off to a studio that I had been put on to by one of my friends. I used the money that I made from the internship to buy a pair of AirPods, so I could charge my phone while writing music at the job. I would go to the bathroom and be in…
